James T. Buchanan

A native of Rhode Island, Mr. Buchanan attended Rhode Island College where he earned a Bachelors degree in Communications, while graduating with honors. Following graduation, Mr. Buchanan began his career in claims in 1984 handling casualty and workers compensation claims for Providence-Washington Insurance Company in Anchorage, Alaska. He transitioned into property claims in 1985 for the Commercial Insurance Division of Aetna Property & Casualty Insurance Company in Boston, MA, and, while attending law school during the evening, he completed his career in claims as an independent property adjuster with Pelletier & Rourke, Inc. of Providence, RI.

Mr. Buchanan graduated from New England School of Law in 1992. Upon graduation, he was employed as an associate attorney with Hayes, Clark, Hunt & Embry, of Cambridge, MA. In 1995, he left that firm to start his own subrogation practice as a sole practitioner. He rejoined Clark, Hunt & Embry as a partner in 2002, establishing the firm's new Subrogation Department.

In the spring of 2007, Mr. Buchanan founded Buchanan and Associates and moved his subrogation practice to Norwood, MA. Over the years, Mr. Buchanan has developed numerous resources including an impressive line-up of competent expert witnesses, including fire investigators, electrical and mechanical engineers, environmental consultants, and licensed general contractors. Mr. Buchanan has extensive litigation, arbitration and mediation experience, having prosecuted hundreds of subrogation claims, ranging from the very small, to very complex multi-million dollar cases, and has supervised countless fire scene investigations. He is licensed to practice in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and has been granted pro hac vice admission to practice in Connecticut, Delaware, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. He is considered by many as the leading subrogation attorney in the Greater Boston Area.

Thomas F. Reis

A native of Massachusetts, Mr. Reis attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where he earned a Bachelors degree in Marketing in 1987, while graduating with honors. Following graduation Mr. Reis was employed for nearly ten years as a casualty insurance adjuster, spending most of that time with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.

Mr. Reis graduated from New England School of Law in 1996. Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Reis was employed as an associate attorney with both Travelers and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, and, prior to joining Buchanan and Associates, was employed for several years with the Law Offices of Robert E. Weiner of Boston, MA. Mr. Reis has extensive trial, arbitration and mediation experience, is licensed to practice in Massachusetts, as well as the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the United States Court of Appeals, First Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Mike O'Malley
